Extension of Job Entry Age Up to 35 Related Discussion: The youth of Bangladesh have been demanding the extension of the age limit up  to 35 for entering government jobs for a long time. Many prominent people discuss this issue at a round table at different times. Though our young generation has arranged processions many times for this issue, the authority has not satisfied their demand till now.

Mr. Rafiqul Islam, Member of Parliament (MP), Chadpur-5

He said in the national parliament that the life expectancy of the people of Bangladesh has already improved from the age of 62 to 72. So, it will be logical to relax or increase the government job entry age limit to near 35. Mr. Farhad Hossain, Minister of Public Administration, Bangladesh

He said in the national parliament that the government has taken many initiatives in the last 15 years. Especially, the job entry age limit was 27 years. But the government increased the age limit to 30 years.  The age limit increased to 32 years for the son of freedom fighters.The retirement age was 57 years. But the government increased the retirement age by 2 years, which means 59 years.

We always want to recruit fresh graduates. This is a government policy. We observed that people can participate in the BCS examination at the age of 22 or 23. They can get 6 or 7 years to join a government job. But we always consider the demand for time and the needs of the era. The age of job entry and retirement is an important issue. Get Together and Rally of Job Seekers

On May 11, 2024, the youth of Bangladesh arranged a procession demanding to extend the job entry age limit up to 35. They got together near the "Raju sculpture" of Dhaka University. This program was called at the initiative of an organization named "Age Limit for Job Application Up to 35 Coordinating Council." A student political leader named Golam Rabbani expressed his solidarity and gave his speech to this gathering.

After getting together, they started a rally marching to the Gono Bhaban at 3:00 pm. But the police tried to disperse this rally and stopped the group of agitating leaders and activists in front of the national  museum at Shahabug in the capital. Then the police of Shahabug Thana arrested 15 people from this rally. The leaders and activists of this march have given an ultimatum to release the arrested youths within 10:00 pm. of the same day.

The Police Inspector of Shahbug Thana, Mr. Arshad Hossain, said the activists blocked the road, poured kerosene, and set it on fire in some places of the road. The police advised them to leave the place. But they did not leave. As a result, the police were bound  to capture 13 activists from the rally.Movement of Job Seekers in Favor of Job Entry Age Extension

Job seekers are moving to extend the job entry age, announcing various programs, including the hunger to death program. They are showing different arguments in favor of job entry age extension, such as the increase in life expectancy, job entry age of our neighboring countries.

Opinions of some students and some ex-government officials

Some students and some former government officials are against the extension of the job entry age. They said if the government extends the job entry age, the young will expend more time to get the government job, and the employer will also be under pressure for more candidates. Government Job Entry Age Limits of Different Countries 

The maximum age limit for government job is not the same all over the world. That means different countries impose different maximum age limits for entry into government jobs. The age limits for entering government jobs in some countries are listed below:

Bangladesh: 30 years for general candidate and 32 years for quota holders
India: 35 to 45 years, depending on the state. In west Bengal, India, the maximum age limit is 40 years for entering government jobs.
Indonesia: 45 years
Qatar: 35 years
Sweden: 47 years
France: 40 years
Italy: 35 years

Extension of Job Entry Age Up to 35

We think our young generation can express their crucial demand in a disciplined way. They should never create any disorder or hamper any asset of the country. So, they should launch their movement in a disciplinary way. Then, they will get public support, and one day, the demands of our youth will come true.
